My tour guide was a very knowledgeable young man with a pony tail (I can't remember his name). Decent sized caverns with some unique formations & I think Anthracite formations which are pretty rare they said. We had a wonderful time. The tour guide was excellent.

There was no wait for Skyline but we did have to wait about 15 min until the next tour was ready to begin.

The caves were very cool (literally- bring a jacket!) The cave has a unique type of rock formation that I have never seen anywhere else. As he wound us through the caverns he gave good information and we were not hurried.
It takes about three hours to travel the entire length of the park on a clear day. Overall a great tour and shop and plan to return!A little pricing but definitely worth it! This was one of the better ones with long vistas and interesting formations. The tour and guide, Sonny, were wonderful. Luray Caverns is open every day of the year. Really neat. One hour drive from Dulles Airport area. As a geomorpholgist (UCLA 1994), I was so very happy to be underground and seeing truly unique mineral deposits. "Absolutely wonderful tour. Amos, a retired geologist and mineralogist from Winchester, Virginia, on December 17, 1937. 66 and 340 He carefully examined surface topography, exposing a secret that had lain beneath the earth’s surface for 60 million years. The colorful lights made it an even better experience, very romantic if your going with your partner. Caverns have been kept in a natural state with improvements to make the tour comfortable.
My family was visiting from out-of-town, and we decided to go to Skyline Caverns. Visitors may still enter the park on foot to hike even when the drive is closed.
