There are fourteen guest rooms and a small apartment available for overnight guests. They even adapted to my vegan needs!nice,but the comunity is realy not liking this bussines.I found it very odd that there is such a huge impact available in this comunity for so much in health and good living and yet so little being done in the area. Then up the road 2miles is the Inn [ Aerie Inn] where Bill and Lois lived every summer while visiting family and holding A.A. meetings in the lobby And all it seems the owners of the Wilson house are concerned with is the imediate needs.
We feel a special connection to the house due to its association with Bill Wilson, who was one of the founders of Alcoholics Anonymous and co writer of the 12 Steps. Great staff and volunteers. I see on the internet they bring in a huge amount of money every year. Its well run by a staff of volunteers that stay anywhere from one week to several months. Unfortunately, life changes all the time and since our last visit, Bonnie, one of the co founders of the house has retired and Barley, the lovely dog who always adorned the living room mat, has died.
So why is the city of East Dorset so against the Wilson house. A historical landmark that holds meetings during specific days (see their website for days/times) and the staff is very friendly and accommodating.
This was our third time staying in the Wilson house having travelled to Vermont from Ireland. Bill and his wife Lois are buried down the road in a small cemetery on Rt 7A.Super important landmark with rich history. We wish Bonnie well in her retirement and are truly grateful for the years of service that she gave to the house. With 14 guestrooms and a conference room the non-profit bed and breakfast is a center for recovery seminars and regular AA and ALANON meetings. Room #2 has a private bathroom and queen bed. Great staff and volunteers.Historical old Vermont Inn, especially meaningful to people in A.A.Quaint, cool old inn that is the birthplace of A.A. Excellent experience! I noticed a sign for donations of sample shampoos, soaps and toilet paper. I later realized a volunteer had made my bed that day. In November of 1995, the Wilson House was added to the National Register of Historic Places. My room was comfortable and clean. A highly recommended place to stay and visit.
