Just a short drive from Blairsville, Hiawassee, and Helen, Brasstown Bald is a perfect way to spend a morning or afternoon.
You must register for some of these events, but others will be all-day affairs during open hours.

Brasstown Bald: the hike.
The road was closed so we parked… For armchair hikers, the mountain is accessible via a 1/2 mile paved trail to the summit, but longer trails are available (see \"Trails to the summit\" section). From Blairsville, Georgia take US 19 & 129 south for 8 miles. There is a lower parking lot (34.84806, -83.79872 on GPS) at a junction of the road (180) that drives up all the way to Brasstown Bald.
Brasstown Bald's facilities and shuttle service remain CLOSED. FIND Outdoors HQ is currently closed, however we will be offering virtual Forest Bathing & Nature Therapy tours beginning May 2nd! The adventure begins at a trailhead near the visitor’s center at the base of the mountain (view maps and driving directions). Owned by the US Forest Service, and located within the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forests, the Brasstown Bald Recreation Area & Visitor Center is the highest point in Georgia, rising 4,784 feet above sea level.
The Southern terminus of the Appalachian Trail is little more than 30 miles southwest of Brasstown Bald at Springer Mountain.
Surrounded by the Chattahoochee - Oconee National Forest, its cloud level observation deck offers stunning 360-degree views of the Southern Appalachian Mountains and valleys.On a clear day, one can see four states.
Children 15 & under get in free. For $4, older children (10 & up recommended) will have the opportunity to participate in the Brasstown Bald Junior Ranger program, where upon completion they will be sworn in as a Junior Ranger of Brasstown Bald. The Brasstown Bald Visitor Center includes 8,000 square feet of interpretive exhibits about the area's geology and ecology, climate and weather, history and culture and video presentations in the mountain top theatre. At our visitor center children will have the opportunity to participate in a free Scavenger Hunt around the museum.
Go 9 miles to Georgia Spur 180 and turn left (north).
The unique circular building is home to an 8,000 sq. The climb to the top starts immediately, as the trail begins its steady ascent.
