The ‘Heart of Borneo’ is the only remaining place in Southeast Asia that still holds huge tracts of pristine forest. Half a million indigenous people still rely on this rainforest, as do countless species (known or as yet undiscovered), many of which are unique to the island. In 2019 I spent several days recording in the spectacular lowland and hill rainforests of Tawau Hills Park on the east coast of Sabah, Borneo. Armed gangs and organized syndicates are aggressively hunting endangered wildlife for commercial profit including overseas trade and wildlife eateries in Sabah frequented by foreign tourists in the Heart of Borneo in Sabah. A stay at the lodge will see guests taking part in several activities, such as wildlife sightings and birdwatching, to name only a few. The Kawag Nature Lodge (previously known as Kawag Danum Rainforest Lodge) is situated in the Kawag Forest, home to a diversity of plant and animal species where many are endemic to Sabah and the island of Borneo.
